What is Yoga?
The
Sanskrit word “Yoga” means to yoke or unite and can mean yoking
breath to movement, body to mind to spirit. Yoga is considered a
“sister science” to Ayurveda, with a closely related philosophy
(Yoga is its own philosophical system, Ayurveda is based on the
ancient philosophy of Sankhya).
Yoga is more than a
physical exercise designed to balance the body, calm the mind, and
make the spirit happy; it is truly the process of becoming
self-aware in all of your activities. Most newcomers to Yoga begin
for the physical benefits, which can manifest immediately, but
continued dedicated practice over a long period of time reveals
layers upon layers of deeper insights into one’s true nature beyond
the physical body.
What you can expect in
your private Yoga session?
We will use simple Yoga
exercises to assess your state of physical imbalance as well as use
these same exercises to help you find relief from pain by teaching
you how to feel the right muscles you need to use for proper
skeletal support and movement. Whether you suffer from back pain,
muscle weakness, or simply wish to learn a routine you can practice
on your own in order to build strength or flexibility we will begin
with simple easy-to-remember sequences that are highly effective and
can be practiced every day for as little as 5 - 10 minutes per
practice session.
We will make sure that
you perform each exercise in the sequence correctly for maximum
effectiveness and can make regular updates to your personal routine
as you improve. One client was able to heal from a major calf injury
(from running) and eliminate lower back pain within a few weeks of
beginning his Yoga sessions and was able to return to his running
regimen. Another client eliminated his long-standing lower back pain
and was pain-free for the first time in years.
